2 seriously injured after car with collegians overturns on WEH

A private car packed with six college students overturned after one of the tyres burst on the Western Express Highway, at Bandra, in the early hours on Monday. Two of the students suffered serious injuries and they are being treated in the intensive care unit of Lilavati hospital.

The Kherwadi police said the group was driving from Kandivli to Carter Road in Bandra, when the accident happened near the flyover in Bandra (East).

"After the tyre burst the driver lost control of the vehicle, a Toyota Innova, it hit the divider, overturned and dropped on the other side of the roadway," said a police officer.

Passersby stopped to help the youngsters, aged between 18 and 22, and took them to hospital. They are all residents of Kandivli.

The police named the two seriously injured as Deven Vora and Meet Thakur. The other four suffered minor injries. The vehicle was driven by Pratik Lal.

Police said they have registered a case of rash and negligent driving and are investigating the cause of the accident. Pratik underwent an alcohol test and the report is expected, they said. They are also verifying his driving licence.
