At least 150 students studying across four Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) are in a fix as the colleges have failed to upload their eligibility requirements to the centralised portal of the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training (DVET).

Students who are enrolled for the two-year long Electrician trade at four ITIs- Bhiwandi,Mumbra,Nalasopara and Parel are yet to get their second semester results more than four months after they gave their exams. The reason- DVET says that the colleges have not generated hall tickets for the students and their exam thus stands invalid.

The issue came to light when a group of students approached the DVET officials on Saturday as they did not get the hall tickets for the semester three examination which begins from February 20. After approaching the officials, students said that they did not get a satisfactory response. “The officials asked us as to why we did not raise the issue earlier. But a lot of us waited patiently till the very last minute. Now that the exams are a few days away, the officials are telling us that we cannot appear for the third semester exams without clearing the second semester,” said a student from the Bhiwandi ITI on the condition of anonymity.

Yogesh Patil, Joint Director DVET said that while there are cases of students who have not got their second semester results despite appearing for the same, this is entirely the institute’s mistake. “Institutes are expected to fill in all the eligibility requirements of the candidates which includes records of their attendance, sectional marks in the quarterly exams etc. Unless they do this, a hall ticket cannot be generated. The hall tickets of these students were not generated despite which the institutes allowed them to sit for the exams. Their results cannot be generated as the exam attempt stands invali
d,” he added.

While asked about this, Abdul Rashid Patel, Principal at the Bhiwandi ITI blamed the glitches in the portal for the delay in uploading data.
" All our students fulfill the eligibility requirements for the exam. However for the last 3 months we are having trouble uploading their details on the government portal. We shall speak to the DVET officials soon and would try to ensure that students get to appear for the third semester,” he added.
