A period of five years post elections is enough for a civic body to gauge its mistake and rectify it. However, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has not learned from its 2011 error and has made the same mistake of listing over 1,350 voters in ward number 5 instead of in ward number 6. The angry voters have now vowed to boycott the February 2017 elections.

Over 1,300 voters from ward number 6 of the TMC, which includes areas like Rambaug, Shastrinagar, Lokmanyanagar, Sahakarnagar and Pereiranagar, were quite annoyed when they received the voters' list two days back.

Their names were enlisted in the voters' list of ward number 5, which includes area like Gandhinagar, Shivainagar, Vishalwadi, Yeoor and Vasant Vihar. "This is quite ridiculous as the same thing happened during TMC elections of 2011," says Rajpath Yadav from the Rambaug area. The residents are quite upset with this repetition of error and even approached TMC for the same.

"We immediately contacted TMC to rectify this mistake but there has been no response," says Shyamlal Yadav, another resident of the area. When we contacted Sandip Malvi, deputy commissioner, TMC, he said that it is too late to rectify the mistake. "They should have raised objections earlier when we had asked for it. However, I will inquire with the returning officer of the area," he said.
