However, the important question is, will the Hyundai Creta be able to do much to ruffle up things for the SUV (C2) segment, especially amongst its competitors?
When it is launched in India today (July 21), the Hyundai Creta will go up against the upcoming Maruti S-cross, the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Ford EcoSport.
According to data released by SIAM, sales volume in the SUV segment has been declining since last year.
Renualt Duster: Sales of Renault Duster were down 39.5% in the month of June compared to the same period last year.
Nissan Terrano: Sales of Nissan Terrano were down 34.8% in June compared to the same month last year. On a month on month basis, Nissan sold 3.4% less Terranos compared to the month of May
Ford EcoSport: Ecosport sales were down 29.2% this year compared to June last year. Its sales volume has declined 3% in June from May this year.
Mahindra Scorpio: Listed in the C2 segment by SIAM, Mahindra has also seen the sales of Scorpio swindling since last year. The company sold 4.8% less Scorpios in June, compared to the same month last year. On month, sales were down 13.7% in June, compared to May.
Tata Safari Storme: Again a part of the C2 segment, only the Safari Strome's sales have increased in the on-year period. The company has sold 18.3% more Safari Stormes in June this year, compared to the same period last year. On month, however, sales were down 4.9% compared to May.
Looking at the data, it hasn't been much of a rosy year for the SUV segment, and now Hyundai adding one more vehicle to the mx. It will take a lot for the new vehicle to turn the tide for the segment.
