Telecom regulator Trai today directed Qaudrant Televentures, Videocon's telecom arm in Punjab, to continue with its mobile services till the time its licence is operational or valid.

"...the Authority hereby directs M/s Quadrant Televentures Limited to comply with all the provisions of the Unified Access Service License, ensure continuity of service to its subscribers and maintain the quality of service till its license is operational," The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) today said.

It further directed Quadrant Televentures to furnish the compliance report within two days from the date of issue of this direction.

Quadrant had informed its subscribers as well as Trai that it will close down its mobile service from midnight of February 15. The company has requested its subscribers to port to other telecom networks operating in the state.

The company had 29 lakh subscribers at the end of November.

As per licence condition, a telecom operator requires to ensure continuity of services to its customers unless the license is terminated or suspended by the Licensor (The Department of Telecom) for any reason whatsoever.

Quadrant has informed Trai that it is unable to surrender the Unified Access Services License (UASL) as it is continuing wired line services under current permit which is valid till September 30, 2017.

Further, Quadrant has infomed Trai that it is also unable to surrender the Spectrum as company's rights in respect of the spectrum usage is sub-judice before telecom tribunal TDSAT.
