Tata Starbucks baristas will have a five-day week schedule starting May 15, 2016, a report in Times of India has said.

It was decided by the company that the corporate office-like structure will be adopted at the coffee chain after it emerged as the top request from employees during a feedback session. With this, all Tata Starbucks employees will get an additional 52 days off, which may help the coffee chain retain talent and arrest attrition, the main aim of the initiative.

Sumitro Ghosh, CEO of Tata Starbucks, who took over as the CEO of the company was quoted in the report saying: "We want to be the employer of choice." This is one of the first major moves made by him the report says.

The new work-day policy will affect 1,200-plus employees working across 83 Starbucks outlets in the country.

The global coffee chain started operations in India in 2012 as a 50:50 joint venture between Tata Global Beverages and Starbucks.
