Tata Group's Chief of Human Resources (COHR) N S Rajan, put in his papers on Friday, following the disbanding of the Group Executive Council (GEC), of which he is a part, The Times of India said in a report.

Rajan, the report said, was picked by Cyrus Mistry, and his exit marks the beginning of the consequences of the Chairman's unceremonious ouster. Tata Sons is likely to fill Rajan's post soon.

While it is imperative for Tata to find a replacement for Rajan soon, as a reassurance for the employees, his exit is not expected to affect the group companies' HR processes as they all have their own human resource departments and heads, the report said.

Cyrus Mistry was removed as chairman of Tata Sons with immediate effect on Monday, citing non-performance, a move that has shed the Group companies' market value by Rs 55,000 crore and has brought out the salt-to-cars' conglomerate's dirty linen in public.

Mistry, who is all but willing to go down without a fight, reacted with a five-page e-mail which was later leaked, which levelled allegations against the Group and, more prominently, against Ratan Tata, who has now stepped in as the interim chairman. Mistry's letter spoke about how he was reduced to a "lame duck" chairman and how Tata's instructions presided over several boardroom decisions even after he was only the chairman emeritus of the group.

The back-and-forth continued with the Tata Group giving a statement that Mistry had lost the confidence of the Board and his removal was because there was a "growing trust deficit" with the ex-Chairman. The company also said that there were several departures by Mistry from the company's ethos and culture during his near-four-year tenure, which supported the move for his removal. Mistry has expressed surprise at Tata Group's claims saying, "It is surprising that Mr. Tata has sought to justify Monday`s conduct by making vague public statements that are contrary to his knowledge and contrary to the records of the Tata Group."
