Retail inflation in March eases to three-month low of 5.17%

The Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) was higher at 6.14% in March but dropped from 6.88% in February.

Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation, or retail inflation, was recorded at 5.17% for the month of March as against 5.37% in February. 

Rural inflation came in at 5.58% as against 5.79% a month earlier. 

The Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) was higher at 6.14% in March but dropped from 6.88% in February. 

The CFPI for the rural sector was recorded at 5.69% and 6.76% for the urban areas. 

Inflation rate was highest in pulses and products (11.48%, followed by vegetables (11.26%), spices (9.03%) and milk and milk products (8.35%) as against in March of last year. 

Only three products registered a decline in inflation rate. These were: eggs, sugar and confectionery, transport and communication by (-3.46%), (-2.61%), and(-1.35%), respectively.
