RIL asked its employees to switch from other mobile operators to Jio's network while COAI alleged that Jio's beta testing was nothing but commercial operations.
The battle between Reliance Jio and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has intensified this week. On Monday, Reliance Industries ordered its employees to switch to the Jio network from other operators, which was expected to cause ire to the cellular association and other telcos in the contry. COAI, hitting back, alleged that Jio's testing of its services was nothing but commercial operations that were not yielding any revenue for the government.
COAI, a non-governmental society, with various telcos as its members including Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Aircel, and even Jio, alleged that while Reliance Jio is using commercial airwaves to provide free voice calls and data, it isn't yielding any revenue for the government as the company says it is only testing its services before a launch.
With pitchforks raised from both the sides, Reliance Jio has now alleged that COAI is "deliberately and maliciously acting at the behest of, and as a mouthpiece for certain specific incumbent dominant operators having vested interest against Reliance Jio," Zee Business reported.
In a letter to the COAI, Reliance Jio warned it of legal action for thwarting a rollout of its services, Zee Business said.
"It only evidences further (that) COAI is openly promoting cartelisation in the guise of promoting the cause of the industry, while actually perpetrating anti-competition practices and misguiding and misinforming the government, Statutory Authorities and the consumers.
"Be that as it may, the contents of the attachment are devoid of any merits and contains deliberate misstatements constituting misrepresentation of actual facts and are defamatory in nature," Reliance Jio said.
COAI and RJio have locked horns over interconnect issues, with the cellular body dubbing the latter''s testing of network as an effort to bypass regulations and the Mukesh Ambani firm hitting back saying the charge is a bid to block its full rollout, a PTI report said.
Reliance Jio has also called for action against dominant players, including Airtel, for denying it inter-connection in a "breach" of the licence agreement.
