The implementation of Goods and Service Tax (GST) is coming close to becoming a reality. After Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das, last week, stated that the roll-out of GST would not be later than July 1, Prakash Kumar, CEO of GST Network (GSTN) on Thursday said that he is ready to roll out GST from July 1.

"Ready to roll out GST from 1st of July, the deadline given by Finance Ministry," said Kumar.

GST which was initially supposed to be rolled out by April 1, 2017, missed its deadline after states remained undecided on certain important parameters like dual control with the states and the Centre.

Last week, it was reported that at least 50,000 letters will be sent by indirect tax officials to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention to ensure successful roll-out of Goods and Services Tax (GST).

A decision in this regard was taken during a meeting of representatives of All India Association of Central Excise Gazetted Executive Officers and those from Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise).

GST would subsume the multiple indirect taxes that are currently in place and replace it with one single tax.
