Rail Budget 2015: 9 key things Prabhu adopts to woo passengers

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu announced his maiden railway budget in the Parliament today. He made passengers happy by not increasing fares. However, the markets didn't seem amused by his budget and tanked neraly 1% on the Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu announced his maiden railway budget in the Parliament today. He made passengers happy by not increasing fares. However, the markets didn't seem amused by his budget and tanked neraly 1% on the Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex. 

dna lists 9 key things that summarises Railway Budget of 2015: 

1. No fare hike

A sigh of relief for the consumers of services by largest railway network in the world, when railway minister assured that there would be no further hike in the railway fares in this years budget.

2. Higher speeds

Raise in pace of nine major 'ways to destinations', the speed of nine railway corridors will be increased from existing 110 and 130 kmph to 160 and 200 kmph respectively so that inter-metro journeys like Delhi-Kolkata and Delhi-Mumbai can be completed overnight. 

3. Cleanliness

The so-called 'Adarsh station schemes' is really promising as 200 more stations to come under the flagship programme.

4. Digital India

And yes ofcourse 'Wi-Fi' will be provided by BJP government as well, at B category stations.

5. Passenger safety

24X7 helplines for attending passenger problems and security related complaints, helpline number 138, toll-free number 182 for security related complaints have also been proposed in the budget.

6. For differently-abled

Government care for differently-abled, as newly manufactured coaches will now be Braille enabled; building wider entrances.

7. Eco-friendly

Eco-friendly trains on the go, 100 DEMUs will be enabled for dual fuel – CNG and diesel. Locomotives running on LNG are also currently under development.

8. Easy access

Provision of Rs. 120 crore has been made for Lifts and escalator.

9. Swachh Bharat

As an impetus to the Modi's ambitious Swachh Bharat mission, a new department for keeping stations and trains clean under Swachh Rail Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
