In talks with IndiGo Airlines for a stake sale, confirms Doha-based Qatar Airways

The Airline, in a statement, said, "Qatar Airways confirms that the only airline it is talking to is the Indian carrier Indigo." This followed reports that the airline is in talks with Ajay Singh-promoted SpiceJet. The airline denied any talks with SpiceJet but said that it is in talks with IndiGo for the same.

Doha-headquartered Qatar Airways has confirmed that the company is in talks with domestic carrier IndiGo for a stake sale. 

The Airline, in a statement, said, "Qatar Airways confirms that the only airline it is talking to is the Indian carrier Indigo." This followed reports that the airline is in talks with Ajay Singh-promoted SpiceJet. The airline denied any talks with SpiceJet but said that it is in talks with IndiGo for the same. 

IndiGo, till recently, has denied any talks with the Doha-based airline. 

This isn't the first time reports of Qatar looking to buy stakes in Indian airlines has come to fore. 

In January 2013 as well reports emerged that Qatar Airlines is interested in SpiceJet. The airline said, "Qatar Airways presently does not have any form of interline agreement with SpiceJet, which is the simplest form of relations between any two airlines, and Qatar Airways is not planning to pursue any form of arrangement in the future."

In a strongly worded statement, Qatar Airlines said, These stake sale comments are unfounded and are believed to be deliberately spread to influence share valuations."

IndiGo, in February, denied that the airline is not in talks with Qatar Airways for any stake sale. 

"Indigo is not even in talks with Qatar...The question does not arise. Its kind of them (Qatar) to say that...

"Its a decision not happening at my level.. We're not in talks with anyone," IndiGoPresident Aditya Ghosh had said. 

Currently, Rahul Bhatia of InterGlobe Enterprises holds 51.12% stake in IndiGo and the rest 48.88% is held by another investor Rakesh S Gangwal through his Virginia-based company Caelum Investments.
