Eight Indian women have made it to the Forbes list of Asia's 50 Power Businesswomen 2016. Nita Ambani who made her debut on the list this year, is on the top spot, with Forbes calling her the "first lady of Indian businesses".

The list is flanked by seven other Indian women -- State Bank of India's Arundhati Bhattacharya (rank 2), Mu Sigma CEO Ambiga Dhiraj (14), Welspun India CEO Dipali Goenka (16), Lupin Pharmaceuticals' Vinita Gupta (18), VLCC Healthcare Founder and vice chairman Vandana Luthra (26) and Biocon's Kiran Mazumdar Shaw (28).

Forbes said that Ambani made it to the list because of her rising profile at Reliance, Forbes says. Ambani who is the non-executive director at Reliance Industries, manages Reliance's sports ventures, including the Mumbai Indians IPL cricket team, sports management firm IMG and Reliance Foundation, the company's charity trust where she is the chairman. She also looks at the running of the K-12 school and is on the board of EIH, Oberoi luxury hotel chain's parent company in which Reliance owns 18%, Forbes said.

Forbes quotes Mukesh Ambani saying, he's “particularly proud of her continuing contribution to sharpening our focus in our consumer businesses, whether it is retail or Jio. Nita brings together talented people, weaves them into a team and works with a missionary spirit to achieve her goals.”

Arundhati Bhattacharya, SBI chief made it to the list at rank 2, while ICICI Bank CEO and managing director, Chanda Kochchar who has made it to the list for the fifth time, was at rank 22.
