Maintain financial discipline for proper fuctioning of BBMP, says administrator Vijay Bhaskar

Administrator of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike T M Vijay Bhaskar's tenure came to an end on Thursday as the newly elected Councillors are all set to take oath in Bengaluru.

According to The New Indian Express, Bhaskar asked the Council to focus on garbage disposal and pay more attention on resource mobilisation and focus on discipline for proper functioning of BBMP.

Priority should be given to maintenance work which includes filling potholes, repairing footpaths and removing silt from drains. 

According to reports, Bhaskar admitted that BBMP is going through financial crisis where around Rs 5,000 crore had to be paid towards bills for old work. 

"BBMP has collected more than Rs 1,350 crore and another Rs 1 crore has to be collected to reach this year's target by march 2016," said Bhaskar.

He had written to the state government to approve the implementation of the revised property tax as well.

TNIE reports say that the new rate will be applicable only from 2016. Bhaskar said that they have approval to increase building licence fee which is expected to fetch BBMP a sum of Rs 200 crore. 

He raised his concerns over the financial management of the Council and said that the new development work needs to be controlled. Palike saved around Rs 3,600 crore.

As per reports, Bhaskar has written to the government to create 25 new posts and fill another 250 posts.
