Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Friday addressed the media on the first anniversary of the Narendra Modi government and said that not only in India, but in the entire world, the respect for India has grown.
Addressing the media, Jaitley said that the one year shows the direction in which the Government led by PM Modi is working. He said, "Not only in India, but in the entire world, the respect for India and the PM Modi has increased. PM Modi has visited 18 nations and India has occupied a pre-eminent place in the global arena."
Jaitley further stated that the initiatives undertaken by the government in sectors such as power, coal and mining are noteworthy and they show a transparent model for reforms.
The Finance Minister said, "The newfound zeal makes people restless with even a growth rate of 8%. Decisiveness even in the face of obstructionism has been an important hallmark of the NDA Government."
Stating that there is absolute clarity with regard to the direction in which the Government wants to go, Jaitley said, "Decisions are regularly taken by the government which will augment growth and development. Decisions have been taken to bring in transparent and principle-based, not person-based decisions."
"In the field of indirect taxation, we are in process of creating history by bringing most imp indirect tax reform, the GST. High taxation rates are never economic friendly, we want to convert the distant dream into reality, "Jaitley said.
