Intolerance debate: Flipkart's Sachin Bansal lends support to Snapdeal post backlash on Aamir Khan's statements

Sachin Bansal, co-founder and CEO, Flipkart has come out in support of its e-commerce rival, Snapdeal, after its brand ambassador Aamir Khan's recent controversial statement on rising intolerance in India led to the portal's facing backlash on Twitter.

Bansal tweeted on Wednesday, “This is a flawed logic. Brands don't buy into brand ambassadors personal opinions. Snapdeal shouldn't face this.”

Snapdeal has finally commented over the people's agitation to boycott the company's application till its brand ambassador Aamir Khan is removed after his comment on intolerance in India which caused much ire. The company tweeted through its official Twitter handle: We are a proud young Indian company of passionate young Indians building an inclusive digital India'.

Aamir Khan has come under fire since Monday evening after he joined the 'intolerance' in India debate, saying that he has been "alarmed" by a number of incidences and that his wife Kiran Rao had even suggested to leave the country. As a reaction, angry Twitterati took to social media, and started uninstalling the Snapdeal app from their mobile phones, saying they will refrain from shopping on the e-commerce platform till the actor is removed as the official brand ambassador.

The comment of Aamir Khan also drew the criticism of Shiv Sena, which in its editorial mouthpiece Saamana said that he the actor should explain in which country is he going to live in. Shiv Sena on Wednesday hit out at Khan for his remarks on intolerance, saying he was speaking the "language of treachery" and asked the 'Khan clan' in the film industry to explain what calamity has befallen them.
