IT giant Infosys on Monday expressed concern over the fate of its proposed software development centre at Rajarhat area near here as the West Bengal government is yet to send its SEZ proposal to the Centre. "We have the land at Rajarhat for which we have paid Rs 75 crore to the West Bengal government arm HIDCO. But we are not able to go forward since our SEZ is still lying with the state government here due to inaction," an Infosys official told PTI on condition of anonymity.

"What the state government would have to do is just forward our proposal to the Centre with a recommendation and nothing else. We have presence in 11 states across the country and all of them have done that," he said. The official added that during the earlier Left Front regime here, HIDCO had given a written assurance that the then government would do the needful in this regard. "But things have changed now", he said.

The official said if Infosys is not able to set up the first centre in West Bengal, the state would lose job creation opportunity for 15,000 professionals.
