Gur (jaggery) prices firmed up by Rs 100 per quintal at the wholesale market in the national capital today following scarcity of stocks amid robust demand.

Muzaffarnagar and Muradnagar gur markets also registered a hike of Rs 100 per quintal in gur prices on the paucity of stocks amid better offtake.

Marketmen said, reports of lower sugarcane production along with negligible arrivals from manufacturing belts created paucity of stocks in the market, which led to a surge in gur prices.

In Delhi, gur Pedi and Shakkar prices spurted by Rs 100 each to settle at Rs 3,300-3,400 and Rs 3,600-3,700 per quintal.

At Muzaffarnagar, gur Khurpa prices climbed up by Rs 100 to finish at Rs 2,800-2,850, while Chakku and Laddoo prices gained by Rs 50 each to Rs 2,850-3,050 and Rs 3,000-3,050 per quintal, respectively.

Gur Raskat prices also shot up by Rs 50 to end at Rs 2,600-2,650 per quintal on strong demand from beer makers.

Coming to Muradnagar, gur Pedi and Dhayya prices surged by Rs 100 each to conclude at Rs 2,975-3,050 and Rs 3,050-3,100 per quintal respectively.

Following are today's rates (in Rs per quintal): Gur chakku Rs 3,200-3,300, pedi Rs 3,300-3,400, dhayya Rs 3,400-3,500 and shakkar Rs 3,600-3,700.

Muzaffarnagar: Rasket Rs 2,600-2,650, chakku Rs 2,850-3,050, khurpa Rs 2,800-2,850 and Ladoo Rs 3,000-3,050.

Muradnagar: Pedi Rs 2,975-3,050 and dhayya Rs 3,050-3,100.
