Amazon.com now sells over 40 million products sourced from India in areas such textile, leather goods and organic products in the US, Canada, the UK, Spain, Italy, Mexico, France and Germany.

"Amul ghee and gulab jamuns are selling really well and tops their categories. The popularity of leather products from Dharavi in Boston or Chicago is now a classic success story," says Amazon India director and GM (seller services) Gopal Pillai.

Fashion brand Biba, Titan, Manyavar, 24 Mantra Organic are some of the other brands that have caught the fancy of the US and European customers while others are signing up.

"Some of the Indian products can be shipped to Amazon Fulfilment Centres in the US so that they become eligible for two-day shipping. Indian brands like FabIndia are now piloting their stuff in these centre," Pillai said.

Amazon is also listing handloom and artisan products of various state government-owned promotional agencies.

Tantuja, a brand owned by West Bengal State Handloom Weavers' Co-op Society is the first such brand to come on board.

While the brand is already available at Amazon.in as well as Flipkart, it would now be available on the India page of Amazon.com ready to be shipped to customers in the US and elsewhere.

"After tying up with West Bengal government for our global seller programme, we are in talks with government of Jharkhand and also trying to take on board brands like Gurjari,(owned by Gujarat State Handloom & Handicraft Development Corp)," Sumeet Swapnil from global sales of Amazon Seller Services Pvt Ltd told DNA Money.

According to Pillai, Amazon has been conducting training programmes in states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, helping them with selecting the right product for online sales and create catalogues, while in Gujarat it had earlier signed MoU with the state government meant for tribal entrepreneurs.

"Last year, sellers from India shipped 1 million products to our fulfilment centres in the US ahead of the Christmas shopping season," Pillai said.
