Ravi Bhatnagar spent 24 years with a leading media group and resigned as senior VP sales and marketing in 2007 to pursue his dream to become a hotelier.

It was a big leap for Bhatnagar who after about quarter of a century gave up what he knew best and venture into a virtual unknown.

“The initial days were full of chaos and things were not at all easy as hotel business requires huge investments. However, with my sheer dedication and hard work I was able to overcome all hurdles that came up,” he says.

Bhatnagar started with a hotel in Bella Ganj and after a decade now a few hotels.

“There were times when I will look back at days I lived in a power and position in corporate life. And I made that experience as a tool to regain that life again but this time as an entrepreneur. Today, I am proud successful entrepreneur having expanded to a few hotels in India including our latest launch in Goa and have learned many new things that I could have possibly not learnt as an employee.”

So what motivates well established people to jump into different industry in an entirely different role. It is a risky affair and may even backfire. But there are still a handful of professionals who follow their heart.

Motivating factors

Some of the major factors that drive them are the idea of exploring new avenues and ways to overcome new challenges. After years of work experience, they know that money and recognition can be earned with performance. These professionals always look out for more in life and like setting their own goals in life. They have strong influx of will to undertake new challenge and prove their mettle as entrepreneur.

Dealing with the change

Once the professional moves into being an entrepreneur, his journey is a roller-coaster ride. At times, things appear easy for them to handle; at other times, they feel giving up everything.
