The 7th Pay Commission that will hike the minimum salaries and pensions of nearly one crore government employees, has created a strange situation in New Delhi.

According to a report in The Times of India, once the revised salaries come into effect, the Cabinet Secretary will take home more money than the President of India. Reportedly, the Home Ministry is trying to set this right.

According to the report, the President gets Rs 1.5 lakh per month, a Vice President takes home Rs 1.25 lakh and the state governor gets Rs 1.10 lakh.

After the 7th Pay Commission pay hikes, the Cabinet Secretary will stand to get Rs 2.5 lakh per month, the report said.

Which means, the Cabinet Secretary's salary will be significantly higher than that of even the President of India.

To correct this, the Home Ministry is planning to soon raise a proposal to revise the President's pay, the report said. The President's salary was last revised in 2008 when it was hiked by three times, from Rs 50,000.

The report submitted by the 7th Pay Commission Panel recommended a near 15% hike in basic pay of central government employees, including the armed forces, the police force, and more, and the overall hike will be 23.55%, which was accepted after much ado.
