So which woman can represent Bangalore best? Does it require the most popular face of Sandalwood? Or would someone with international recognition in sports or fashion make for a more justified choice? For International Women’s Day, DNA got cracking to find out who represents Brand Bangalore best.

The list of women was narrowed down to five. This included Bollywood film-maker Kiran Rao, Miss Earth Nicole Faria, Sandalwood’s Queen Bee Ramya, ace fashion designer Sanchita Ajjampur and India’s number one golfer Sharmila Nicollet. Each of these superwomen were then ranked based on achievement, mass appeal and effectiveness as a catalyst for social change by our jury.

The jury comprised image consultant and fashion guru Prasad Bidapa, brand guru Harish Bijoor and event management pro Oum Pradutt. In what seemed to be a rather close contest, Nicole Faria won, beating Ramya by a slight margin. Kiran Rao, with her internationally acclaimed debut, Dhobi Ghat, figured at number three, followed by Sanchita Ajjampur and Sharmila Nicollet.

Talking about Nicole’s appeal to Gen Y, Harish says, “From the list of equally good women, each excellent in their realm of work, I do believe Bangalore is a young city. 63% of Bangalore is below the age of 25. By that yardstick I would pick Nicole Faria. She is young, ebullient, has achieved a name for herself in the realm of modelling and is quite ready to be the new face of new Bangalore.”
While Prasad believes that Nicole has a certain appeal, he is equally vociferous about Ramya. “She is one of the smartest girls I’ve met,” says he.

Talking about Kiran Rao, Oum says, “Kiran has become an international brand after the release of her film. She still maintains everywhere how she’s a Bangalore girl. But, on mass appeal, Ramya has it in her to get people believing in causes that she takes up. Nicole too has age and mass appeal by her side.”
