A celebrity crying hoarse over domestic abuse is the fastest way to start a divorce case or unsettle an ongoing divorce case — admit police officers and prominent divorce lawyers.

“We have a clear directive from the Commissioner’s office that once a wife files a complaint, we have to give the husband a 72-hour notice (before arrest) to help him secure (anticipatory) bail,” says a senior police officer.

Celebrity divorce lawyer Mrunalini Desmukh says, “A case of domestic abuse will drag on for at least three to four years and in most cases, it is difficult to prove domestic violence if there is no prima-facie evidence,” she says.

Divorce lawyer Mridula Kadam also admits, “There is no law that protects the husbands from domestic abuse of the wife. In so many cases, the wife tends to misuse the law because of blind rage, hysteria or out of revenge.”

According to psychologist Seema Hingorrany, it’s imperative for the couple to figure out their compatibility quotient before they get married.
