Politician Shashi Tharoor is marrying Sunanda Pushkar today in a quiet family affair to be held at his 200-year-old ancestral home in Kerala in the presence of relatives and close friends.

Fashion designer Shaahid Aamir, who has designed the wedding outfits for the couple, speaks exclusively to DNA and reveals the couple’s wedding look.

The designer feels they are the most undemanding couple as far as fashion is concerned. “Tharoor loves his kurtas, bandgala jackets and is not very fashion savvy.  Sunanda is someone who’s inherently fashion conscious.  She wanted the outfits to be subtle, understated and yet elegant.”

Talking about the wedding look for the bride, Shaahid says, “Sunanda is beautiful, so designing for her was a cake-walk for me.”

For the wedding set in Kochi, it’s going to be a  traditional Kerala-styled affair. The outfit has been designed accordingly. “She may wear the red and green tule saree with Kanjeevaram border, kundan and zardosi work. She might wear it with authentic Kerala jewellery.”

For the lunch post the wedding ceremony, the designs continue to be traditional. “She will wear a fuchsia pink pure chiffon saree with handspun gold silk blouse in tule sleeves. It is adorned with antique work butis and has a slim border.”

The Delhi reception has a nawabi theme. “It is a Hyderabadi khada dupatta.  The dupatta is five-and-a-half yards long with gota, kundan and semi-precious stones on it. The outfit is in an off-white colour,” concurs the designer.
