Folk fusion singer Raghu Dixit doesn’t want to limit himself to the Indian market. He feels his music has wider scope and needs to reach the international audience. So the singer is now looking to explore UK. He has signed on an international management agency which has orchestrated an extensive 15-concert tour from May to July in the UK.

Raghu kick-started his tour with the WOMAD Festival (he plays there the second time) in Spain and then went on to travel to various places, performing in London, Queensbury, Liverpool, Charlsbury, Dorset, Nottingham, Birmingham, Lake District, Cardiff and Croydon.

Raghu is travelling with his first self-titled album which has songs in Hindi, Kannada and English written by the artiste over 12 years. His music has elements ranging from ethnic folk, classical and Sufi to reggae and blues.

“I will be doing the tour in two legs. The first will be showcase concerts, where I will be performing for the people from the music industry of the UK, including the record labels, producers and concert organizers. It’s an attempt to make them aware of our music,” says Raghu.

The second leg of the tour will be regular concerts for bigger audiences. “What happens usually is that mostly Indians tend to attend such concerts. But we are looking to reach out to a more diverse audience,” says the Bangalore-based artiste, who is in India for a short break and will be in the UK continuing the second lef of his tour.

The Raghu Dixit Project basically has an Indian folk base and the band blends it with various sounds from across the world. People in Europe are more interested in listening to authentic sounds and so Raghu is quite positive about the response he will get there. “For them, Indian music is sitar and tabla. There’s a lot more to Indian music than that. We want to show that there are many dimensions to Indian music,” he says.

He will also be doing an Australia tour towards the end of the year and also a US tour early next year.
