Realty entrepreneur Sammeer Sheth, his wife Palak and their two daughters Tanisha (12) and Shenaya (2) and Sammeer’s dad stay in an over 5,000 sq ft bungalow in a quite by-lane of Peddar Road. With an illegal building soon-to-be demolished in front of their house and the other side having just a wall that goes down to Breach Candy, the Sheths are truly blessed by an abundance of quietude.

With a home that prides itself on Indian-ness, the decor is traditional Indian with an emphasis on brass deities got from all over India as well as gifts over the years. “I’m sure you’ve never seen so many statues in any other home,” says Palak about the beautiful Ganeshas, Radha-Krishna, Laxmi, Nandi bull, as well as other non-religious figurines all over the formal living room. High ceilings, marble flooring, bright and airy interiors and twin-level seating opens up the living room into the garden.

A variety of trees, potted plants and an enclosed gazebo (which doubles up as Sammeer’s entertainment room) make up the garden. “I like to catch up and chill out with some of my close friends in this room,” says Sammeer. Done up entirely according to Palak’s taste, the gazebo has a happy confluence of a Zen vibe fused with folk art Indian crafts.

“When you look out from the glass paned sliding windows you not only get to see one of India’s beautiful handicrafts but also the greenery beyond,” she says, explaining her thoughts behind the idea.

On the first floor, lie the bedrooms and the TV room. The children’s room has a double bed done up in cute floral prints and sports pink heart-shaped pillows. A rounded cane chair with bright red coloured cushions, similar to those at the Virgin Atlantic lounge in New York, has found its space here.

With a huge 52 inch LCD surrounded by low seating on one side and sofas on another, the TV room is where you’d mostly find the family. “This is our most used space and we all like to hang out here and relax,” ends Sammeer.
