Of all the trends, the one that spreads like wild fire is the one sparked by a celebrity. The most recent one being that of owl accessories.

Owl pendants by the ooh-la-la brands were being flaunted by the swish set a couple of years back. But they actually got momentum in recent times when actor Sonam Kapoor wore a long chain with a prominent owl hanging on it at a social do.

Actress Shruti Hassan and socialite Pooja Bedi were also spotted flaunting the trend too. More recently, actress Deepika Padukone sported a similar pendant in her movie Break Ke Baad and matched it with a red outfit. What started as a swish-set favourite is now available at almost all fashion outlets for as little as Rs50 onwards!

Says fashion designer Nachiket Barve, “The owl is an international trend! Fashion always has a trickle-down effect — from couture to pret wear, to high street fashion and then exploding into mass markets.” He adds that the owl is a beautiful motif to flaunt and since it is now available in different shapes and sizes, one can go ahead and just indulge.

Another accessory that has caught the aam aadmi’s fancy is that of actor Salman Khan’s bracelet and the multi-gem stone armlet that actor Ajay Devgn and his entire family wore sometime back. A silver inter-locked chain with a turquoise gem at its centre, Khan is rarely seen without his bracelet. Its replicas are selling like hot cakes and have now percolated even beyond the multi-brand outlet slab. Jewellery designer Shaheen Abbas admits that Salman’s charm bracelet is a hit, but only among his fans.

“Personally, I wouldn’t recommend anyone to wear the bracelet because it looks loose and uncomfortable but it is selling and how! And Ajay wears the charm armlet for health reasons,” says Shaheen.

In fact, the craze to accessorise like Sallu is so strong that one can even find belts and neckpieces with the turquoise gem at its centre. Fashion designer Anita Dongre too nods in agreement as she says, “All the three trends have a different audience. The owl is for the fashionista while Salman’s bracelet is most sought among his fans. Ajay’s armlet however is like a male fashion trend. It looks cool on Ajay and I’ve seen fashion-conscious men just get themselves a replica — an armlet with colourful stones on it!” says Anita, who picks the owl as her favourite trend.
