`Internet-savvy` mums consider web ‘top source of parenting tips’

Most mothers opt to get parenting tips from the internet, over asking their own parents for advice about how to look after their children, according to a new survey.

Eight out of 10 British mothers routinely visit parenting websites and forums whenever they need some kind of parental advice.

The survey of more than 3,000 mums found that most women now shun asking their own mothers or fathers for tips on how to look after their children" preferring parenting forums such as Mumsnet or Netmums, the Telegraph reported.

The research, carried out by broadband provider Plusnet in the run-up to Mother’s Day this Sunday, also found that 41 per cent of mums now do their weekly food shop online to save time and the same number prefer online banking to avoid long in-branch queues.

More than half (51 per cent) of this generation of internet-savvy mothers frequently research their children’s homework online and the 99 per cent of these women spend any spare time they have surfing the web.

Of the 3,300 mums polled, half of them said that they also liked the fact that while housebound with their children, they can seek ‘adult conversation’ from peers online through sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

“Through this study we can see how vital the internet is when you are a parent - in fact even us Dads are partial to turning to the net, especially for things like help with homework,” said Jamie Ford, chief executive of Plusnet. (ANI)
