International honour for Leena Sarabhai

Leena Sarabhai, founder of Shreyas Foundation, was felicitated with the highest educational honour by Helmut Kutin, president of SOS-Kinderdorf International Vienna and Siddhartha Kaul, regional director of SOS-Kinderdorf International South East Asia.

Sarabhai was honoured for her contribution towards children's welfare and education. The felicitation programme was held at Shreyas Foundation in Ambawadi on August 7.

At present, SOS-Kinderdorf International Vienna has 2018 facilities and programmes in 132 countries and territories of five continents.

Shreyas Balgram, an initiative of Shreyas, was established in 1962 and since then has been dedicatedly providing the children with quality education.

Shreyas Foundation became the first Balgram in India and second in Asia to be affiliated to SOS Kinderdorf International Vienna in 1964. From then on, Vienna has granted Shreyas a station wagon and has given subscriptions for the maintenance of the Shreyas SOS village. The community has bestowed Leena Sarabhai with the honour for her efforts of maintaining and enhancing Balgram.
