Karan Johar is a lot of things — producer, director and even actor, but another thing he is very passionate about is fashion.

Johar is known for his own personal style and this year he participated in the men's fashion week for the second time along with designer Varun Bahl to showcase their fashion line.

“I am very excited," the filmmaker said. "This year, our collection is prêt as opposed to last year when we had a couture one.

"The theme is New York and so the clothes are more formal than casual should be and more casual than formal should be and that is how the average New Yorker is,” he said, with a laugh.

Johar will use clothes from his fashion line in his films if they suit the theme.

So, what are the trends for men this season, we asked him.

“Across the world fashion lines have the structured look," Johar explained. "Leather has made a big comeback this season and then there are pointed shoes.”

But the one fashion faux pas Johar wants men to stay away from is wearing skinny jeans.

“I don’t think men should wear skinny jeans,” he said. Anything tight below the waist should be reserved “for women only”.

It is difficult for men to keep up with trends and dress according to them as the chances of getting it wrong are high. “Then they stick out like sore thumbs,” Johar said.

Johar's advice is to “take a good look in the mirror before just wearing anything. Fashion should be about your body type, your structure and persona.”
