Designer David Abraham of Abraham & Thakore talks about the current fad of designer homes in India

What do you think of the market for designer furnishings in India?
Urban Indians, especially in the metros, are going all out when it comes to setting up their homes. They want the best. Though, there are very limited options when it comes to designer furnishings in the Indian market. That way it is in a nascent stage.

Is this what prompted Abraham & Thakore to get into furnishing?
We have been working with our Japanese clientele for a quite some years now. Abraham & Thakore home furnishing lines is a lot similar to our fashion range. We try and keep the sensibility clean, understated and contemporary.

A lot more Indian designers are getting into this space.
Who says we should be limiting ourselves only to making fashionable outfits? Home furnishing is a big market and we trying to tap that. There’s a lot of space for everyone. The ones who have understood the potential have gone ahead and started their own labels.

What are the colours you have used for your collections this season?
These are a lot similar to our clothing lines, which I keep reiterating as contemporary and understated. We have basic hues, which comprise of white, black and greys. We’ve used a lot of interesting patters in our work, keeping just these simple colours in our minds. This is meant for the modern homes, which aren’t really into anything over the top. The Japanese clientele hence work perfectly.
