Veteran fashion designers Didier Lecoanet and Hemant Sagar have taken up a very important cause to root for. The designers have been deeply moved with the effects of global warming and are taking the cause first national and then on to a global platform. To achieve this objective they are rolling out a nature-inspired collection at the ongoing Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week.

“We have been inspired by nature and the crisis it is facing. We want to create an awareness through our line as we talk about global warming and the water crisis that the world is facing today. We care the least about environmental issues but we forget that it’s the most important thing. We are healthy and living a good life because of a clean environment,” Hemant tells DNA.

The designer reveals his grand plans to campaign for nature. “We are going to take it up on a national platform first. That is why we are starting with the Delhi fashion week. We will study the reactions and then take it across the country through the stores and the clients that we have. When they buy from this line, they will automatically be supporting the cause,” he adds.

Lecoanet Hemant’s line will have motifs,  colours and elements that are inspired from nature. “We are writing the word green in red to show that the situation is alarming. We really feel for the cause and thus our line is fully inspired by nature and our thoughts on the crisis. Our focus in the line is going organic and also on recycling. Since the collection is on nature, the colour palette is very natural. Mineral colours, beige, red and others dominate the line,” Hemant says.
There is a long drawn debate on whether fashion should at all focus on news and take up causes. Many analysts have globally written that causes should be left aside by the fashion industry. However, the designers don’t endorse this viewpoint.

“Fashion is about clothes today. It is new. Similarly, news is also new. So, we feel fashion should take up what’s in news specially if it’s a big cause. Fashion is not about theories, it’s about creativity. We are free to do what we want and we are not looking to garner publicity by supporting a cause. We are doing it because we feel for it,” Hemant signs off.
