While artistes from India and abroad have been churning out Bhangra pop for the last two decades, DJ B Projekt may just soon reinvent it. In his album Blindfolded he’s bringing acoustic, hip hop and rap fusion elements to bhangra.

He recently launched the video of his second single Naal Nachona from his latest album. The track also features US-based Punjabi singer G-Deep and rapper Raja Wilco. “Collaborations always bring interesting influences and sounds,” admits the DJ who has earlier collaborated with Juggy D too.

B Projekt has used Greek guitars and Arabic guitars in his album.  “Since it is dance music you have to make it thumpy and have heavy dance beats,” he says. “Bhangra music does well abroad.

Clubs in Europe and Paris play good Punjabi tracks, but strangely Indian DJs are not really coming out with great Punjabi stuff,” says the DJ, whose first video of the album Ni Soniye featuring model Brunah Abdullah had reached number two in the UK.

Ask him if our DJs are at par with others who have been pouring into India from the US and Europe, and he says, “Every DJ there is also a producer unlike here. Most DJs here stick to remixing. We should try to make more of our own music. I have always focused on making original music to break this perception.”
