Our urban lives revolve around work; we are either at work, travelling to and from work, or worrying about work even in our free time. In such a situation, the time and energy to enjoy life’s aesthetic pleasures becomes a challenge. Besides, how often is creative art at our disposal? To remedy this situation, The Art Loft has launched their new initiave — to bring art into our daily lives while we’re out having coffee, hanging out, or grabbing a quick bite.

The Art Loft was founded in May this year by three artists — Greg, Leila and Kevin. The trio has now gone beyond the confines of their gallery in Bandra (W) to bring art on the streets of their neighbourhood.

The event called ‘The Art Conspiracy’ will kick off in Bandra this weekend, during which Bandra will be invaded by the art of more than 300 upcoming artists, both professional and amateur, along with a team of 40 established artists who will collaborate, perform and help share the art extravaganza. The art will be displayed prominently across 13 venues across Bandra, such as lounges, coffee houses, stores, restaurants and Bandra Fort. These include Pali Village Cafe, Azaad Bazaar, Mia Cucina, Loose Ends, Out of the Blue, Bonobo, Yellow Tree and Mocha Mojo.

“The concept we had in mind was to promote art across the city and across all mediums,” says Leila. She remembers walking in
Bandra and realising that there wasn’t much going on in terms of art in the neighbourhood. She and her fellow founders decided to remedy this with the Art Conspiracy initiative, which Leila terms an ‘artistic revolution’. The submitted art has crossed genre lines, with contributions ranging from water colour paintings, hyperrealist renditions, abstract art, collages, sketches, scrapbooks, sculptures, photography, installations, graphic art, short films, audiovisual art, live art and much more. The best part is, artists will be able to meet, network and display their work to people across the city.

The jury selecting the work consists the who’s who of the city’s creative world — filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, Kala Ghoda festival curator Brinda Miller, live artist Nikhil Chopra, What About Art owner and manager Eve Lemesle, and other artists, choreographers and art therapists. The two-day festival will include the exhibition, live art performances, night markets, workshops and film screenings across the venues.
