Say art for cause and Arohi’s name is sure to pop up. After doing her bit for less fortunate girl children, the artist has set her eyes on yet another awareness mission. This time, she has decided to support The Voice of Stray Dogs (VoSD), an organisation that concerns itself with the welfare of stray dogs.

Arohi has put together a hand-crafted collection of home furnishings, personal accessories and paintings themed entirely on dogs. She calls the collection, which includes bright and colourful totes, clutches, wallet-cum-key-pouches, laptop, iPad and iPhone cases, and cushion covers, the Poonchh Collection. “It brings together dogs and design, two things that are close to my heart,” she says.

But why dogs we ask her and she retorts by asking “Why not dogs?” The collection aims to rid people of certain misconceptions they could have about stray dogs. “There is so much bad press about stray dogs and I wanted this situation to change. At the point of sale, volunteers from VoSD will be present and those who come to buy my products are free to interact with them and then frame an opinion about stray dogs that are often considered a menace,” she says.

She hopes that when people buy her accessories with dog prints on them and carry them around, others who see them will get curious and ask questions. “I have tried to make stray dogs stylish enough to be carried on one’s shoulders. I do understand that a single exhibition is not good enough to make a huge difference, but if atleast one person can stop him or herself from pelting stones at dogs the next time he or she sees them on the streets, then I’ll feel I have made a small contribution to the cause,” she reasons.

Arohi will be contributing 50% of the profit that she makes from the sale to aid the functioning of VoSD’s mobile hospital. “The commitment of VoSD’s Rakesh Shukla towards the cause inspired me to come out with the collection. My contribution will support the mobile hospital and the organisation’s animal birth control programme,” she says.

Products at the expo are priced between `350 and `3000. “Not only are people contributing to a cause but are also getting something in return for the money they have given. So, this is more like a guilt free cause,” says the artist. The exhibition is on at the 100 Ft Boutique Bar Restaurant, Indiranagar, on February 10, 11 and 12.
