Originally from Germany, Sabine Schwanz moved to Spain almost 14 years ago, after falling in love with the charm of Madrid.
She reveals that 8.5 million tourists visited the city in 2014 and this has only increased in 2015. The timeless city with its tiny alleys and vibrant streets draws people into the free-spirited life and relaxed atmosphere.
In this exciting cultural hub, there are many programmes and activities planned, specifically for women, especially on International Women's Day. Tours around Madrid highlight some of its prominent women from royalty to politicians. For the art lovers, many museums provide special guided tours focusing on women's art and how they are represented in the art world.
When it comes to safety, Schwanz says,"In Spain, people live on the streets". This makes many women feel secure, she says, adding that it generally is a safe place. A woman can get lost in the city's magic on her own and not have to worry excessively about safety and being on her own, she says.
Whether you like to travel on your own or explore the history of an exciting city, it seems like Madrid has enough variety for everybody.
