Calling it his tree-ganesha, 29 year old sculptor Dattadri Kothur has created something simple yet extremely innovative.
His Ganesh idol gives birth to 'new life' as he likes to call it.
Kothur says he has been making eco-friendly Ganesh idols for the last 6 years however it is only this year that he came up with the idea of a tree-Ganesh - an idol of Lord Ganesha with seeds hidden in his belly.

Explaining the concept he says,"The idol is made by hand and I use all natural materials for it which makes it easy to dissolve and the seeds inside begin to germinate eventually. Ganesha lives on in his creations - the plants."

While the idea sounds like a hit, Kothur says he is yet to figure out how his creations can find a place in peoples hearts and homes eventually. "This year I made one for my family, however next year around I hope others prefer this one rather than the ones that are toxic for the environment."

Chancing upon an idea that could be a commercial success. Kothur says he doesn't want to commercialise it and would be happy simply if people took inspiration from him and made their own idols as well. Speaking with much trust in his voice he says, " Ganesha is the harbinger of success and remover of obstacles. He will take the form of a tree to prevent the earth from massive destruction and bless humans with the wisdom to protect nature."
