Mumbai has been waiting for a breath of fresh air after many rooftop restaurants in the city were shut down. Stepping into that void is To Know Where, an all-day diner that opens to patrons today in Atria Mall. The menu according to Kabir Luthria and Gaurav Dabrai, the co-owners, is a mix of contemporary comfort food and an interesting mix of small plates, salads, pizzas, fries, main course and dessert, all with their unique stamp on it.

Food

Our first pick — Earth in a bowl (Rs 450) a mix of fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts— all tossed in a dijon mustard and sherry emulsion is the perfect progression for our next choice. The Lone Chicken Salad (Rs 450) dressed in a fermented rice vinegar and palm jaggery emulsion comes with lettuce, red kraut, strips of chicken, red jalapenos and some peanuts for that extra crunch. Next up, is The Uncommon Common Mushroom Ragout (Rs 350).

What you get is mushrooms tossed in paan and fennel gremolata served with a few pickled mushrooms that will have your tastebuds singing. Wash that down with The Spell of the Temptress (Rs 425 ) if you prefer a sweet tangy cocktail, made with fresh strawberries, homemade strawberrry cordial, tequilla and champagne, there’s also a strawberry flavoured lolly that gives it a sweet tinge for an added sugar rush.

The Sunset in Benares (Rs 395) packs in quite a punch with its saffron infused brandy, homemade almond fennel pollen syrup and toasted almond bitters). From the wood-fired pizza section, we chose Happily Unmarried Pizza (Rs 675) — two different sides in one pizza — a half calzone and half open pie that’s delicious.

For the mains, we recommend you go with The Kiss of John Dory (Rs 875) a grilled John Dory which is slow cooked with garlic confit and served with a mojito and charred garlic jam and whipped potatoes. Finish the meal with The English Sin (Rs 450), a take on the traditional baklava served here with nutella, pistachio, praline champagne soaked chocoalte coated strawberries and chamomile ice cream or seek comfort in Therapy (Rs 450) a chocoholic’s dream dessert that’s both decadent and as sinful as it gets.

Also, on the menu is the hard to pronounce, tongue twister -  Supercalifragilisticexpialidocius Ice Cream Sundae (Rs 1,111) that has to be ordered 24 hours in advance. What you get is loads of ice cream, fried cheescake, 65 per cent dark chocolate fudge, choux au craquelin, cookie sandwiches, smoked caramel, hazelnut and cookie dough crack, strawberry and proseco preserve, cognac filled bon bons, single origin chocolate truffles all finished with an edible gold leaf. Our reason to drop by again.

Ambience

Patches of greenery on all sides of this all-day diner transports you to a tranquil space spread over 18,000-square feet that’s in the heart of the city and yet away from all the din. Decor elements like the dream catchers in different hues, the wind vane (weather cock), a wine fountain and a vintage bath tub make for interesting conversation starters.

There’s also a phone booth that functions as a private space where you can make and receive calls without the music or the conversation drowning you out.
