Imagine this—a perfectly set dinner table with china and flatware, chairs on which you are strapped into and a chef (or three), who takes centerstage to whip up gourmet delights. All this while you sit with your legs dangling nearly 50 m above the ground level, indulging in set courses and beverages. Welcome to the world of sky dining—a luxury experience that will last you a lifetime.

The pioneers in sky dining are a group of event and adventure sports planners from Belgium called The Fungroup and Hakuna Matata, who have created the property, ‘Dinner in the Sky’, which is now spread over 43 countries. Owned by entrepreneur David Ghysels, ‘Dinner in the Sky’ is a unique experience, which offers its diners a six-course meal, tailored to their requirements, served by a chef and waiting staff, who are up in the air with you, literally. This thrilling gastronomical ride also offers spectacular views and sounds of either a bustling city or a beautiful backdrop of mountains, depending on what part of the world you have opted to indulge in, for a sky-dining experience.

‘Dinner in the Sky’ leases out the experience in the form of cranes, platforms and equipment complete with safety harnesses, along with  staff for a group of 22, at each session. One can hire ‘Dinner in the Sky’ for eight hours and a session can last anywhere from half an hour to the full eight hours. It can be customised to your requirements.

So what’s the experience like up there? Besides a full-service staff and meals, you can pamper yourself to wine/beverages and the possibility of having another platform hoisted besides yours for entertainment such as live music, an entertainer or a DJ console. The food served is usually reheated or cooked on-the-spot on a BBQ or on a grill. Their safety-hazard protocols do not permit cooking with a flame. Each diner is covered with insurance.

This entire experience can cost you upwards of US$38,000 per session, in the location of your choice including wine (depending on whether they have partnered with a group in your country).

Other Sky Dining Experiences
An exclusive Gueridon service, a new four-course menu, wine pairing options, a personalised butler service, magnificent skyline views – you can indulge in all this in the comfort of a spacious capsule, atop the world’s largest Giant Observation Wheel in Singapore. If you are planning a romantic getaway for the upcoming Valentine’s Day, consider their ‘Love is in the Air’ Valentine’s Day Dinner. The wheel will take the diners on a revolving ride with a panoramic view of the gorgeous city.
