Silent relief

It’s the end of a really long wild goose chase and it’s difficult to believe that the over 40 missing paintings by masters like Souza and Hussain - family treasures of the house of Mafatlal - were quietly resting all thjis while at a decrepit warehouse in a busy lane near Girgaum chowpatty.

What’s strange though that is neither the police nor Sheetal Mafatlal have bothered to make some noise about the development - unlike the hue and cry raised when she discovered that the original paintings had been replaced with fakes. While the entire episode has been shrouded in layers of mystery, we’d definitely like to know who had parked the originals - since that would also solve the mystery of who planted the fakes. As far as the police are concerned, they are still ‘investigating’. We’re not surprised.
