It’s the season to pull out your finest ethnic wear, adorn yourself with some jewels and dress up for Diwali. With endless number of card parties and cocktail soirees, there’s no better time to ace your festive look.

Go for a winged liner
The winged liner has made its comeback one way or the other. You can go on the contemporary lines and make it more fashionable, says Natasha Nischol, co-owner and co-founder of Fat Mu, make-up academy. “To glam it up more, you can use a bronze eye shadow as a base. Accompany this with a statement mouth. In terms of hair, a simple out turned blow dry can do wonders and it goes well with traditional outfits. Messy braids, fishtail braids, waterfall braids can bring lots of texture and movement to your hair. If you like your hair up, then an elegant bun or updo with accessories would also be lovely. And for short hair, a half tie up, soft waves or straightened out hair can do wonders.”

Play with warm colours

Monaz Cooper, stylist and owner, Kamal’s unisex salon advises not to overdo the hair and make-up for your card party. “Keep your eyes simple with an eye liner and an earthy eyeshadow. Add a touch of blush on the cheeks. Lips can be adorned with red tones or even maroon to match your traditional wear. A watered down version of the smoky eye is a great option for a night make-up look this festive season. Avoid too much of black and grey. You can also achieve a great smoky look using cooler colours such as purple and blue. Warm colours are made for Indian skin since we have yellow undertones. Hence, experimenting with colours such as coral, rust, brown, maroon are a good idea. Cool colours look vibrant on fairer skin,” she says.

Nail the metallic look
Priya Kapur, make-up and hair expert suggests working with a dewy complexion, neutral eye shadow and a burst of glitter in metallic shades that could be gold, bronze or silver. Pair this with a deep berry lip. “Middle partings for hairstyles are back after ages and we see this trend on the runway and the red carpet. Make a sleek bun with a middle parting and accessorise with a string of fresh flowers. This look can be worn comfortably with all outfits. Frosted metallic nail colours are in this season. From bronze to gold and silver, even reds and deep plums in frosted shades are gaining popularity. Jewelled tones are not only for the eyelids but also look fabulous as nail colours. Colour blocking is a massive trend especially with wine, teal and emerald hues as hot favourites for those who enjoy the spotlight.”
