A new research has revealed that classical music calms down dogs, and relieves them from stress.

The study observed two groups of dogs in which one group was kept in silence, while the other had classic music played into their doghouse, and found that the dogs' stress levels decreased significantly after listening to music, the Daily Express reported.

Gilly Mendes Ferreira, education and research manager said that  male dogs responded better than the females, but both groups spent less time standing and barking when the music was being played.

Amy Bowman, a PhD student concluded that classical music benefits dogs positively, but lasts for a short period, which proves that dogs are like humans who prefer to listen to a variety of music and not the same thing over and over again.

The research is published in the journal Physiology and Behaviour.
