One look at the recently-concluded fashion weeks and you can deduce that the tuxedo mini has emerged stronger than ever before. Evolved from the power dressing of the ’80s, this season, the coat mini dress has assumed more contoured and figure-hugging proportions. By ditching the pants and extending the hemline, the tux dress easily navigates from the boardroom to the bar. Designer Alexander Wang presented one with a bare-shoulder detailing and Matthew Adams sent out a plaid one with roomy shoulders, Dion Lee clubbed a double-breasted version with a harness accent and Hellessy showcased a cape with contrasting black gloves. Designer Suman B of label Lola shares, “Fashion cycle is seeing a shift now where masculine silhouettes have been morphed into delicate style lines. As far as the tailoring goes, it has a lot to do with the structure of the collection.”

DONE WITH CINDERELLA GOWN

The tux minis may be having a moment on the runway, but doesn't look like they have takers in Bollywood. Stylist Isha Bhansali opines, “I think we are done with Cinderella gowns. It’s high time people caught up with new shapes and silhouettes. The likes of Anthony Vaccarello at YSL and Olivier Rousteing at Balmain started the trend reinterpreting the classic pantsuit.”

CORPORATE COOL

Since it’s formal yet sexy, it can easily be incorporated into the workplace closet with a few minor tweaks. Designer Aniket Satam says, “It’s perfect for informal luncheons and even corporate presentations. The hyper-masculine tailoring perfectly complements the seductive mini hemline without being ultra sensual.”
