Oils have long been incorporated in traditional beauty regimes. Whether it was for stronger hair or supple skin on the body or hair, various kinds of oils have proven to be beneficial. With a shift towards more natural and organic products, perhaps it's no surprise then that lip oils have gained popularity. The product that contains a combination of oils be it coconut, jojoba, avocado etc unlike regular lip balms or glosses promises long lasting hydration for dry lips. The formula is said to penetrate deep into the skin cells. They also work similar to tinted balms, they add colour and some shine to the pout. A number of beauty labels such as Yves Saint Laurent, The Body Shop and Clarins amongst others have their own versions of lip oils and the lightweight product has already found many takers.

LIPS NEED EXTRA CARE
Virginia Holmes, make-up artist and co- founder Fat Mu Academy says she's all in favour of lip oils. "Oils are really being celebrated in the beauty industry from hair to skin, so lips are just a natural extension. Lips need extra care and hydration and anti-ageing properties too. Personally I think the ones in the market right now are fantastic as there is so much choice on offer. If you're on a budget, use coconut or olive oil at home and if you want to splurge, Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil is the bomb! Once applied fourteen essential oils including ylang ylang, cedar, and lavender soften while exuding a pleasant, herbal scent. While they can be worn under lipstick, do remember these products are designed to be worn alone and offer long lasting colour," she says.

CHECK THE INGREDIENTS
Lip oils are good but always look at the ingredients says Bianca Hartkopf, celebrity make-up and hair stylist. "My favourite ones are those with coconut oil. I prefer natural products and stay away from artificially made ones. This item is perfect if you are a gloss girl that likes shiny lips but prefers something less sticky than a gloss. Most of the new products use virgin coconut, olive, and cooling eucalyptus oils so your lips will be intensely moisturised and soft. Lip oils could replace tinted balms for summer as they're designed to nourish the lips while adding a bright colour," explains Bianca.

FOR A YOUTHFUL POUT
Priya Kapur, make-up and hair expert feels lip oils do a lovely job moisturising and re-conditioning lips. "Lightweight and non-sticky, the lip oil offers a new and luminous shine while the tint effect enhances the natural beauty of the lips making it the perfect combination for youthful looking lips. The colour is also rich and long lasting. Wear it alone or over lipstick to add comfort and shine to lips. It is great for those days when you don't want to bother with too much colour," she says.
