Making up the face

Scott Barnes arrived in New York City in 1984 and was determined to fulfill his dream as a finearts painter.

After attending New York’s Parsons School of Design, Scott began assisting on fashion photography shoots and found his way to the green room and as they say, rest is history.

Scott says, “It is my first visit to India and I am very excited to be part of the Signature Derby. India inspires me with its culture and the bright vivid colours.”

Scott is the author of two books titled About Face and Face to Face. Both the books give us a perspective on how to change the usual go-to make up routine with techniques for getting the perfect look to take you from day to night.

Questions that are answered in the book are: What’s a sleek, work-appropriate face for the boardroom and client meetings? How do you make your face up one notch for a dinner out? And what does it take to wow the all-night crowd and create your own red carpet glam?

He adds, “I’ve written two books about how women can achieve the best possible versions of themselves with makeup. It’s universal from East to West. I bring out the best looks for each and every woman.” However, he feels Indian skin’s basic problem is uneven pigmentation.

In Hollywood, he has worked with celebrities such as Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Gywneth Paltrow and Vanessa Williams to name a few.

But everywhere he goes, he is asked, how do we get Jennifer Lopez’s glow, he explains, “The best way to achieve Jennifer’s signature faux glow is by using Body Bling.”

Closer home, he has to yet work with Bollywood and the glitterlati brigade. He concludes, “I love would to work with Priyanka Chopra.”
