December is all about pleasant weather, warm drinks and all those bright, festive things that usher in the Christmas and New Year’s cheer. Amidst all this, you need to look your best. As you go shopping and find that perfect dress that fits you like a dream but frown upon the price tag, you are left with little choice other than leave that outfit hanging on the mannequin. Here is your chance to give that dress a second glance even with your limited fashion budget as you can still glam up with a bit of patience.

There is high-street fashion with leading international and local fashion brands and there is designer wear with the promise that the designs are specially crafted for you. You no longer need to window-shop and sigh over the inflated prices as a trade-off to exclusivity.

Jahnabee Borah, who works for a fashion website, says, “I subscribe to leading fashion magazines online. This keeps me updated on the latest offerings on sale. That way I have the first pick at half the price!” She also explains why fashion designers are launching their products in the mass-market. “Designers are aiming to increase their reach. So, they have a varying range to suit every pocket. The other day, I stumbled upon Ritu Kumar’s online store where you could find stuff  for just `2,500,” Jahnabee shares.

Fashion designer Anita Dongre, who has also ventured into the mass-market, shares that looking good is more about attitude and knowing yourself. “Dresses can be worn by every woman, it’s just important to know your body type, so that you can pick out the perfect dress that hides your flaws and accentuates your figure,” she says. Anita adds that the key to dressing to impress is that you need to feel good to look good. “There is no point walking out the door if you don’t feel comfortable and confident in what you’re wearing. If your dress is too tight, clingy, short or too big, then you’re going to have an awful night out,” she points out.

Some of the fabrics that are in this season are lace, net, georgettes, chiffons, velvets and sequins. And Anita feels that you need to take care of the entire look that includes complementing the dress with the right accessories, hairstyle and heels.

It’s not just your spending power that will get you noticed this season!
