What’s the name of the actress who was in movies like Khoobsurat, Lipstick Under My Burkha and Kapoor & Sons? ‘Quick, answer!’ I exclaimed. ‘Ratna Pathak Shah!’ answered my friend excitedly as she tapped the answer on her tab. The green tick mark appeared and we grinned, knowing we had managed another five per cent discount on the bill!

The two of us were seated at Quizzr, the bright and cheerful eatery that not only lets you indulge in a super fun quiz as you wait for your order to arrive, it also gives you the chance to earn yourself a big discount. You can answer upto five questions each time you place an order and if you answer all of them correctly, the next three bonus questions answered right can get you a massive 50 per cent discount on the final bill! Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too!

Game on

Co-founder Rahul Dhingra, says the idea behind the all- day cafe and diner is to get the guests to gang up together against the common factor — the bill! “The tabs are all linked, so you, as a family or as a group of friends, are bonding together to get the maximum discount. It’s a lot of fun to hear loud cheers from tables as they answer correctly,” he tells us. Sure enough, right after that, the group of friends sitting right behind us start cheering — they have got the maximum discount possible — and the servers too clap for them.

Food’s away!

In all this, it’s easy to forget that we’re actually here to taste the food. Keeping the fun factor in mind, the cafe offers all sorts of comfort food including pastas, pizzas, burgers and more, some of them with their quirky take on them. The Tomato Singhada Chaat (Rs 175) caught our attention and good that it did — the cold appetiser came in the shape of little tarts and was instantly refreshing. The Nutty Apple (Rs 150) mocktail left a pleasantly surprising nutty taste in our mouth and we know that’s what we will be ordering the next time as well. The Mexican Shots (Rs 350) with its three layers of sauces served in shot glasses with nachos, was a yummy blend of guacamole, salsa and refried beans. While the Crispy Lotus Stem (Rs 275) was a Chinese preparation and slightly sweeter than what we would have liked, the Black Pepper Prawns (Rs 375) were delicious.

After yet another round of five questions, followed by the bonus round of three (yes, we did manage the 50 per cent discount as well!) we ordered the mains including the Moilee Fish Curry with Rice (Rs 425) and Chicken Bhuna with Paratha (Rs 350). The former was a mildly flavoured curry with coconut milk served with rice and surprisingly light on the tummy. The latter had tender chicken pieces in a chunky caramelised onion gravy with a paratha that remained soft even as we played another round of quiz in the middle of it all. The Tiramisu (Rs 200) wasn’t one of the best we have tasted, but it did succeed in giving us that sweet ending we craved.
