Redecorating homes with different themes has become a new fad. But other than money, there are many issues to deal with while redecorating homes. The peaceful, serene and sunny Asian theme is already popular in the West, and is picking up pace here too. Giving your bedroom a new look with south Asian theme is just a matter of finding the right colours, textures and furniture. Adding just a few elements to the room with an Asian theme will give you a clean look.

Furniture
The biggest focal point in the bedroom is the bed. Choose a low platform style bed, for a very clean and sleek look. Nightstands should also be low to the floor to match the height of the bed. Place rice-paper screens behind the bed instead of a headboard to complete the look. To keep the cost low, take a low nightstand and paint it black to adhere to the Asian theme.

An Asian dynasty cabinet can be used as a wardrobe. You can get reproductions of these pieces or you can find an older piece and refinish it with black and gold paint.

Rice paper screens can be used anywhere in the room to add to the decor. Put a light behind it in a corner of the room. Screens don’t have to functional; they can be a design element.

Paint and Colour
A bold and dramatic Asian look would be red painted walls. Accent colours with red paint could be black or gold. Red can add a dramatic look for your bedroom, but if you are not ready for something so dramatic, a lovely shade of jade green would look well without being splashy.

Brown too adds to an Asian theme in the bedroom. Try to stick with only one or two colours on the walls to keep the Asian theme. Brown would look best with gold.

Decor and Accents
Bamboo plants and paper lanterns can finish off the look of an Asian inspired bedroom. Add bonsai trees to a tabletop as well. The spread on the bed should be kept white to counteract the bold colours on the walls.
When you choose a lighter colour or less dramatic colour for the walls a rich red spread would work well. Just don’t overpower the room with dramatic colours on everything in the room.

Asian fans on the walls are a nice touch for the room as well. Choose some large ones to fill empty wall space. Consider adding water and candles. A lovely tabletop fountain would fit in nicely in an Asian themed room.

Add some satin pillows to the bed to polish off the look. The Asian inspired bedroom is the ideal place to relax at the end of your long day. The peaceful accents in the room will inspire you to meditate and eliminate stress.
