  • The roads of Mumbai are not racing tracks – drive within the prescribed limits to avoid accidents.
  • Mobile phones are great distractions and it’s best to switch it off while driving.
  • Don’t drive under the influence of alcohol or sedatives.
  • Wear seat belts and make sure others do too. They save you from serious injury in any mishap. Make them an important part of your “clothing” when in the car.
  • Always wear a helmet when on a two-wheeler. Pillion riders: Your life is precious too! Wear helmets.
  • Respect the pedestrians. Slow down or stop at zebra crossings. Always give way to pedestrians.
  • Roads are meant for driving & not parking your car.
  • Always carry relevant documents (Driving license, RC, insurance, pollution certificate etc.)
  • Stay calm! With road repairs and metro work going on, traffic jams are likely. Honking or zigzag driving will only add to the confusion 
  • Children to be seated on rear seat only. Don’t forget the seat belts!
  • Follow lane driving, change lanes well in advance.
  • Be aware about hand signals used by traffic cops.
  • Keep you tyre pressure within range as specified by manufacturer particularly on cemented roads.
  • It rains heavily in Mumbai: Tyres to have sufficient tread for good grip on roads, check wipers regularly for any damaged blade, after coming out of water puddle during monsoons, immediately dry your brakes
  • Do not switch on main beams on well-lit roads.

In a promotional offering exclusively for women, Maruti Suzuki is providing the opportunity to learn driving at discounted rates at Maruti Driving Schools, accompanied by the popular “Queen of the Road” contest, a month-long campaign, running through March. The campaign aims to encourage driving skills amongst the women of the country. The contest is open to all women over the age of 18 years. The participant has to undergo 3 stages until the final round- an online test, a practical evaluation at a Maruti Driving School and the zonal winner shortlisting procedure. Winners from each of the 4 zones will be given the title of “Queen of the Road” and will walk away with prize money of Rs. 50,000 each. The winners will be announced next month.
