The Fifty Shades of Grey trailer is out and one can't help but think of the rough and ruffian side of fashion. The subversive streaks of Bondage and S & M have time and again surfaced in the fashion history. Donatella Versace, Gareth Pugh and Jean Paul Gaultier are some of the names which instantly come to mind. They may look stylistically magnetic on the ramp but pulling them off can be quite a challenge in real life. We tell you how to rock the S&M chic without coming across as sloppy!

Impactful but not vulgar
Designer Falguni Peacock who's dressed several Pop divas in edgy bodysuits says, "People in India are not used to dressing this way. You may choose to wear a harness on a shirt. A leather skirt paired with a nice shirt and layered with a studded jacket is a great look. Sexy studded high heels are your best bet. The red Louboutin soles add to the kink factor. Most importantly the wearer's attitude has to be correct. Opt for bangs and red or black nail paint. Complete the look with an envelope size lace clutch or a classic Chanel small bag. Alexander McQueen knuckle clutch makes for a great finish."

Reinterpreting sheer
Designer Anand Bhushan who showcased sheer dresses with swimsuits in a daring and cool way says, "In my last collection I showed leather patchwork dresses with peek-a-boo detailing which exuded that vibe. Sweatshirts with S & M inspired prints on them is a great idea if you don't want to take the daring route."

Bring out the handcuffs
Designer Pranav Mishra of label Huemn says, "I personally find garter stockings really hot, and they could be styled in so many ways - wear it with an oversized t-shirt, and it is more flirty than a floral circular skirt. We need to be who we are, we need to be less scared of what people will think. Accessorise with handcuffs and chains and complete your look with dark eyes and deep lips."

Stylist Amit Patel says, "Accessories play a crucial look - body chains, half rings, closed collars, cuffs with little locks, body chains, shoulder chains, gladiator and strappy shoes. Opt for spikey studs, shoulder embellishments and belts in a clever way and don't OD on these. Do it in smaller proportions."

Be careful about the sheer stockings
Ami adds, "Opt for a semi-opaque dress and make sure it's not too short. These days you get skin colour stockings with lines at the back and those are safer options."

Smoke it out with rough edges
Ami adds, "Smokey eyes are the ultimate but smoke it out in such a way that it's inky and uneven at the edges. Either make the mouth bright or opt for smokey eyes. Don't do both. Tease hair a bit and don't opt for a clean blow-dry. It should look like that it's been blow-dried in the day earlier."
